I feel that Drupal is somewhat lacking when it comes to providing a download manager for hosting files. Lacking as in there isn't a suitable module that would handle it the way DocMAN does. This series of tutorials show how you can use the core modules, along with some additional common modules to essentially mimic the DocMAN download manager.
